Legrand Strickland
I know it has been 3 days now since I've written anything, but that novelette from Sunday was supposed to suffice till I could get more info and time to write.
Carrie says Legrand is doing GREAT! He's busy with his rehab at the Center for the Intrepid and appointments - every day. He's still not sleeping very well. and they're working on that issue. But, he is eating and trying to get well.
The bands in his mouth broke the other day, and it was decided not to go back in and reinsert new ones. Just told him to be very, very careful when eating his soft, soft foods and drinking, and everything should be okay. Grand was quite pleased with that decision, to say the least.
So, that's my short, but sweet update for now. Just remember, I can only update as much and as often as I get updates from Carrie. And she's been a very busy wife and caregiver these days. Pray for her physical and mental strength to continue as she faces this new role, as well as for Grand's health.
Nahum 1:7 "The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him . . "
Dear Prayer Warriors,
My brother, Terry, was hired today by a large company in Mobile County!
Thank you so much for praying for him. He had been out of work since last July. God's timing is always perfect! Lovingly, La Juanna

From Marcia to IDOKs: Carrie reports that the jaw surgery (putting in a plate) is necessary because it's still not straight, plus having broken teeth and a missing tooth. This all makes for difficulty eating, and eating is necessary for him to build up his energy.
However, they were visited by the Clarks, Davies, and the Leaches over the weekend, all of whom brought in a variety of food: Chinese, Italian, poppy seed chicken, tortellini, chicken & rice, and Starbucks and lots and lots of sweets. Grand did not seem to have any trouble eating from these selections at all!
Also, Grand's former boss Joyce from OC drove 13 hours on Sat to see him and visited 3-4 hours and then drove back to Bentonville on Sunday. He was honored by her visit.
Carrie proclaims this from the rooftops: "I have to tell you . . . NEVER once have I heard Grand complain, or be angry, or do anything except thank God he is alive. Every day I hear him say it. Everyone says how strong I am, but that man inspires me and it honors me to be strong for him because he is the strong one. Abba has great plans for His child. I am blessed to see God's great work every day!"
She continues: "I can't believe he has only been here 36 days and is getting out. Sometimes I think how sad it is that a tragedy has to occur for us to see that God does miracles every day. This has really opened my eyes, not just to God's great love for us, but the fact that he has a plan for us - not always our plan - His ways are not our ways, right?"
2 Sam 22:31,33 "As for God, His way is perfect; the Word of the Lord is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in Him. . . It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect."

Report by Mabel to IDOK: The doctor has mentioned Wednesday as a possible discharge date. The surgery last Friday to close Jim's chest went well and seemed to make a lot of difference in the way Jim feels. We are encouraged - and it is good to have hope. We are so ready to get back home. Jim will go home with IV antibiotics and chest tubes but we will be able to get home health. Thanks again for all your prayers and telephone calls. It means so much to have family and friends - we love and appreciate you so much. Love, Mary

Paul is going back to work Monday. He is not out of the woods yet but one of his doctors has allowed him to go back. He is so excited. God is so merciful. Please continue to pray that the MRSA won't come back and that he will be able to get his life and his family's life back on track. Thank you all so much for your prayers. I know without it the results would be different. Praises to our Father. Martha.

Reported by Marcia to IDOK:
In waiting for an answer to our prayers, we've always been told, "In God's time." And it seems as if God's time is usually a lot slower than ours. But, with Grand, it's been like a whirlwind, and God hasn't seemed to slow down yet.
Now Carrie tells us that Grand may be out of the hospital next week and live in her quarters as she will be his caregiver. They will make daily visits to the hospital for his on-going care and then begin the physical therapy at the Center for the Intrepid. That's the fabulous state-of-the-art facility for amputees located right in front of the hospital.
The doctors and nurses are just amazed at his rapid progress. He got in his manual wheelchair and drove himself down to the front of the hospital. He donned "real clothes" and went to visit his former nurses in ICU, the ones who hovered over him from the onset. He has sustained some vision problems and permanent hearing loss in his left ear, but those are minor issues compared to his initial injuries.
Carrie is still in awe of all the prayers lifted up for Grand and how God has shown his love and miraculous power toward Grand. She thinks of the day they will be home and Grand will be walking again, and it doesn't seem that far away any more.
Psalm 52:9 "I will praise You forever for what You have done; in Your Name I will hope, for Your Name is good. I will praise You in the presence of Your saints."

Kayla is doing much better. She has even asked to watch TV. No fever but still in ICU. If they remove the tubes, she will eat and go to a regular room soon. Carolyn

Also, some good news -- Baby Ryder is starting to gain weight. I think they said he has gained 5 ounces! That's a lot when you only weigh 1 lb. 2 ozs. He's had a few little complications along the way lately but that it's just the way it is with micro-preemies -- up and down until they get to a certain point. He was 4 weeks "old" on Saturday. We need to be praying for his heart and for his ability to breathe on his own. His brain is good, praise the Lord! Janet

I just heard from my Aunt Irene and the news is good. She said he is out of ICU in St. Mary's hospital in Knoxville and in a regular room. They think it may have been a blood clot in his lung and not a heart attack. They don't know anything for sure but are running tests now. He is feeling some better and my aunt is encouraged. I can tell from her voice that she is relieved that he is better. Thank you so much for praying for them. I had a "good" cry and prayed a long prayer...and then turned it over. I am so blessed to have caring, praying friends and family! love you, Mabel

We finally got answers!!! Whitney has Mesenteric Adanitis. It is inflammation and irritation of the stomach lining and surrounding lymph nodes. VERY treatable. A STRICT diet and some meds. Gotta go to Bham every week for a little bit but that is ok too! We know what's wrong and how to help it! God answers prayers and we are SOO THANKFUL! Rosemary

Clayton's eyes look so much better. They look like he only has sties. Most of the gook is out of them. Martha

I was just writing you a note about my cousin Tori. We went to see her at UAB this week and she is in special care now instead of intensive care. She is improving every day. She is off dialysis and her liver is better. They finally found the medications that work. She will be moving to a room soon we hope and pray. She is purple and blue from all of the needles and still swollen but she was smiling and wearing reindeer antlers one of the nurses put on her. Thank you and everyone for all of your prayers. Love, Rosemary
